Udinese attacker Gerard Deulofeu had been rumoured as one of the potential candidates to replace Nicolo Zaniolo in January in case the 23-year-old happened to depart the Italian capital before the transfer deadline.
However, Zaniolo’s reluctance to accept Bournemouth offer made it impossible for Roma to track down a replacement for the remainder of the season.
Italian intermediary Stefano Antonelli recently confirmed Roma’s interest in the Spanish winger who is now nursing a knee injury and expected to miss several weeks of action.
“Roma were on him, but in the end he didn’t join them nor Tottenham. He was very close with Tottenham,” Antonelli told Tuttomercatoweb.
“Not much had been said about it but Deulofeu was almost a done deal to Tottenham, but ultimately the player got injured and had to undergo surgery which halted the whole deal.”
