Italy coach Roberto Mancini: “I see Pellegrini as a mezz’ala.”

Andy Mattioli

Roberto Mancini – manager of the Italian national – has addressed his idea for employing Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini in the upcoming qualification playoffs for the World Cup.

Earlier today, Mancini held a press conference at Coverciano and answered to a question regarding Lorenzo Insigne’s condition. “We can’t always expect players to be at 100%, and perhaps he won’t perform the way he did at Euro 2020, but we can always try and bring something different to the table.”

When asked whether Pellegrini could be a valid alternative to Insigne, Mancini replied, “Pellegrini is a player that we value as an offensive mezz’ala. He’s one of the several options at our disposal.”
