Roma manager Jose Mourinho analyzed his team’s performance in tonight’s scoreless draw with Lazio in the derby.

In his post-match interview with DAZN, Mourinho said, “We played to win, but this point is still a positive point.”

“For when you play against a team with the same objectives as you and you don’t lose it means that you don’t lose points against your direct opponent.”

“The late substitutions? Those who felt better physically got to play tonight. The midfield three were in good condition. We played with 3 players who had the pace, heart and soul to play a match of this level.”

“With the referee giving us two yellows in 20 minutes to two centre-backs, we were in trouble. We played a good match with personality and decent possession. We failed to score. We had some opportunities.”

“If Bove had been fresh he would have scored, I’m sure. Rui Patricio practically didn’t touch the ball but when he did he was good. He played an extraordinary game.”

“Dybala? He did a great job for us. He didn’t lose the ball, he helped us switch up the play. I could have taken him off before but his confidence and class is something the team needs.”

“Lazio have the possibility of making many changes and if we had limited ourselves to defending it would have been difficult.”

“Sarri? He’s always very nice to me. We joked quite a bit before the match about the words we said to each other during the week. We also told each other that we love each other. After the match we said to each other that neither of us will cry or laugh.”

“We are three points away from fourth place. In the league we had a disastrous performance against Genoa but then we had a good campaign in agreement with our potential, however damaged by not having Smalling, Pellegrini and Renato on half duty.”

“We’re in a good position right now with the work the team is doing. We can improve and hopefully be happier with these players who have this injury history. Let’s all work hard to try to prevent them. Renato played three short games. Let’s see if he can improve in the next few weeks. He can give us a lot.”

“I don’t care about criticism. I am very demanding of myself. Even if we had won 5-0 I wouldn’t have forgotten Thursday’s match with Slavia.”
