Roma manager Jose Mourinho applauded his side for their response in tonight’s 2-0 victory over Frosinone in the Italian capital.
The Giallorossi got back to winning ways after a nightmare midweek performance against Genoa, defeating Eusebio Di Francesco’s men thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Lorenzo Pellegrini.
“We gave Frosinone a few opportunities in the first half but in defence we had a midfielder and a guy who just arrived at the club,” Mourinho told DAZN.
“Our wingbacks had a good performance from a defensive point of view then in midfield there was a strong effort from Bove and Paredes. Even Dybala and Lukaku gave a defensive contribution without the ball.”
“The squad played as a team tonight, Frosinone have quality players—this isn’t the team that played in Serie B last season. It was a good game.”
He added, “Lukaku? I’d be the first one to take responsibility if he doesn’t score, but this isn’t the case. He scores everywhere he goes from United to Inter. I’m not capable of destroying his quality.”
“The thing that’s bothered me over these last few days is what I said yesterday: three months ago I was loved, everyone was in panic if I left. A few months later, we start the season poorly, but it’s due to several factors.”
“I knew the lads would show who they really were tonight. I’m happy we won because this team is close to one another. It’s not easy to bounce back when you lose like we did in Genova. You need to be balanced and have the right mentality when you get back on to the pitch.”
Finally, “We never heard criticism from the fans, who showed us incredible affection when the pullman arrived at the stadium so I must thank them for that. For them it was as if we had won in Genova.”
