Roma defender Juan Jesus appeared in the latest edition of the AS Roma Match Program. Here are his words:
How important have the last two victories been for the team’s morale?
They’ve given us much confidence and calm so that we’re better-off when we face Shakhtar.
The goals have returned. What was the problem?
The important thing is winning, not necessarily the goals. We have to score in the match against Shakhtar; perhaps more than two so we can feel at ease. It was important for us to back to scoring goals, especially having scored many in two very difficult matches against Napoli and Torino, this helped our confidence.
The first leg in Ukraine?
The first leg was a bit strange. In the first half, we realised that we can put them in trouble, in fact, we played very well and scored. In the second half, we dropped off a bit, but certainly in Rome it will be different. We will all give our best to qualify.
They have many Brazilian players with great quality. Who has impressed you most?
They have always had very strong Brazilians. I’ve seen Fred in great form, I know him, we played together at Internacional. He is quick, but he has not surprised me because I already knew how good he was, we have to keep an eye on him.
What would it mean for you to reach the Champions League quarter-finals?
For us and the supporters it would be very important to go to the quarterfinals. It would give us so much satisfaction and confidence to achieve many other goals. I hope to qualify because it would be a fantastic evening.
