Beside Xhaka, Roma have monitored Alkmaar’s Koopmeiners as a reinforcement for the midfield for the past few months.
The club is still interested in the player, and despite Atalanta being initially mentioned as the strong favorites to land the talented Dutch international, the 23-year-old recently admitted to being in talks with multiple clubs at once.
He spoke to voetbalzone.nl and shared an update on the situation:
“I’m in talks with several clubs and the conversations I’ve had with these clubs have gone well. I like these clubs and I have expressed this to AZ Alkmaar’s management. They know which clubs I am talking about. The negotiations are going well.”
The midfielder has a contract with Alkmaar until 2023 and is in close contact with their sporting director, Max Huiberts. He’s made it clear he wants to play on a bigger stage.
Currently, Roma are interested in the player along with Stade Rennais, Napoli and Atalanta.
