Roma defender Marash Kumbulla was one of the few starters in the Giallorossi’s infamous 6-1 defeat to Bodo Glimt to maintain his place in the roster. The Albanian centre-back recently started on several occasions and was usually among the best players on the pitch.

Kumbulla spoke to Supersport and described his journey under Jose Mourinho and how he managed to convince the Special One to take a second chance on him after a difficult start to the season.

“Only by training hard and without any words, and he saw that I give my best at all times,” he said.

“In these last few months I have played consistently which is good because I feel physically fit.”

“He simply told me that he liked the way I trained and put his trust in me on the pitch.”

On his personal ambitions, he said, “With Roma I hope to play as many games as possible and reach the Conference League final. With the national team I hope to play the European Championship. It’s normal that I’d like to play the Conference League final in Tirana, it would make me feel very proud.”
