Despite losing, Lecce attacker Gabriel Strefezza praised his side for the determination they showed against Roma in a packed Stadio Olimpico.
The newly promoted side put up a fight versus Jose Mourinho’s men even though they played down a man for over sixty minutes.
Strefezza connected on a loose ball just before halftime and leveled the score at 1-1. However, the Giallorossi eventually retook the lead after Paulo Dybala scored a penalty early in the second half.
He admitted to DAZN, “We wanted to do more. It was a great performance considering we played with ten men.”
“However, we need to look forward. We’re a young team and the youngest guys are slowly beginning to get up to speed.”
“Every single game we try to do what the manager asks of us. I think our ability is slowly beginning to show itself. We’re a tight knit group and we want to achieve our goal of avoiding relegation.”
Finally, “From a personal standpoint I’m glad to have scored a goal. I want to help the team and score as many as possible.”
