Roma fullback Leonardo Spinazzola – fresh off a Conference League trophy and currently away on international duty with Italy – released an interview to La Domenica Sportiva, a programme for Rai 2.
The European champion detailed some aspects of his recovery from an injured Achilles suffered during Euro 2020.
“Thanks to my character I never lost my smile but after the injury I experienced a very difficult period, some days I spent them staring at the void,” he said.
“I wasn’t afraid of not playing again, but of not coming back the same player as before.”
“I’m fine now and I’m over the moon, my wife, my children and friends have helped me so much”.
“Roberto Mancini gave me serenity throughout recovery, and Mourinho did the same, he always encouraged me to not give up.”
