The president of Lille, Olivier Letang, took matters into his own hands and personally dismissed Edon Zhegrova’s exit rumors.
During a recent press conference, Letang addressed Zhegrova’s statement regarding his interest in moving away from Lille.
The player – who has been linked with Roma, among other clubs – said he was ready to join a top club.
Letang responded to him via his presser on Wednesday.
“Edon probably was in a hurry when he said those words, because we hadn’t talked about it. We gave a very clear position to his agents and his father who I met in Lille about ten days ago.”
“Edon is a talented player and I told them that he had a good season. But to go to a big club you need consistency. He’s a guy who has the potential to have a 15 or 20 goal and 15 or 20 assists season. And at that point he will be able to leave Lille.”
“We must not forget that we are a great club. And then leave Lille to go where? To do what? Edon still has a long way to go with us, we are very happy to have him with us.”
“I think Bruno Genesio will confirm him. We are counting on him for next year. We only have two players with a release clause, Leny Yoro and Jonathan David.”
