Lorenzo Pellegrini acknowledges “indefensible” defeat with Hellas Verona

Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini acknowledged his side’s poor form to start the new Serie A season.

Their first defeat of the new campaign took place earlier tonight as the Giallorossi fell 2-1 to Hellas Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi.

After the game, Pellegrini reacted to the defeat and discussed how his team can improve going forward.

“I honestly don’t know what happened,” Pellegrini told DAZN. “The data is there for all to see, we don’t want excuses and we need to improve. It’s not possible to score a point in the first two league games for a team like us. It’s indefensible. It will be important to do well on Friday against Milan.”

“We always try to do our best. It is not a situation related only to one player or another, it is a team situation that we will analyze and resolve as soon as possible.”

“The coach, our staff and all of us think about working hard every day. Today was a bit off, we come out of here with zero points and we have to analyze the mistakes such as the two goals conceded. Then on some things I think we have even improved. We must no longer concede these counter-attacks. We have stop these conceding those goals such few occasions.”

“There’s not much to say, there’s only the mistakes that must be analyzed and avoided at all costs,” he added.

“Obviously Mourinho’s absence can be felt. You all know how important this is to us. Unfortunately that is the case now. This was the last game without him, it will certainly be different from the next one, but this is not an alibi. Now we have to shut up and work harder than before, because we know there’s going to be lots of talk going around for the next few days.”
