Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini led the team by example in tonight’s match-up with Ludogorets by scoring a key brace to help the Giallorossi advance to the Europa League knockouts.

“In my opinion it is very important to be sure of what you are doing when you step up to take the penalty, to know where you want to shoot before you approach the spot,” Pellegrini told Sky Sport after the 3-1 victory. “I was calm, I knew it would be fine.”

“The win is eventually what happens when the team remains united. I never have the feeling that as a team we might come apart. I always feel like we’re all brothers on the pitch.”

“Sure, we don’t always get the result we want, but the important thing is to remain united through it all,” he added. “I saw us stay united at all times, even in our losses.”

“The Derby? I don’t need to talk about it in the locker room. The fans and the environment do that for me. The fans make us feel their passion every step of the way. We know we have to win it, and we know it is going to be a special match.”
