Lorenzo Pellegrini discusses winning Conference League as Roma captain

Andy Mattioli

Lorenzo Pellegrini spoke about the feeling of winning a trophy as the captain of his childhood club in a recent interview with Four Four Two.

“The whole journey was special. From the beginning, we believed we could win. We dedicated ourselves to winning the Conference League,” said the Italian midfielder.

“Winning with Roma was a dream come true for me. I’ve always dreamed of lifting a trophy with this club and last season was my first real season as captain. To be able to combine these two things, the first win of my career with the captain’s armband with this shirt, was really exciting.”

“Some might say that all that passion we saw during the celebrations following our victory in Tirana came from the fact that Roma hadn’t won a trophy for several years. For me this is not the case, it is the passion of our fans that exists only here in Rome, not elsewhere. Being able to celebrate a cup, a goal, a victory with the same, relentless passion is unique. This is a special club.”

“Smalling? I recently asked him where he would take me out to dinner, I have already given him three assists this year. We said: every three assists, a paid dinner. A top dinner, though! He is exceptional, so positive, great on and off the pitch.”
