Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini detailed the emotions racing through his heart and soul following Roma’s historic Conference League win earlier this week in an interview with UEFA TV.
“This has been a long journey – I started with this shirt at the age of 8 and I never thought at 25 of being able to become one of the captains who raised a European trophy.”
“A great satisfaction, but above all because the group deserves it. It seems obvious to say it, but we’ve always stayed united.”
“Despite making some mistakes this year, we had the strength to always get back up. What I said to my teammates before the game is that, as captain, I’m proud of all of them.”
“Our fans have been incredible and this is for them too. They never left us alone, the only times they didn’t fill the Olimpico were because of the COVID-19 protocol.”
“Since the stadium opened, they’ve been incredible. In the locker room we talked about how the fans made us feel like champions and this is for them.”
“We wanted to make them realise what they gave us. I want to say one thing: winning this trophy was not at all obvious because on the way there there have been many difficulties, a real team manages to overcome them and become stronger.”
