Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini lifted his men to victory of Sampdoria in tonight’s match-up at the Ferraris stadium. The Italian midfielder’s penalty kick gave Mourinho the precious three points as Roma continue to climb the league table.

Pellegrini detailed his feelings about getting his long-awaited goal: “I wanted to score so badly at Empoli that I missed. Tonight I knew I would score from the spot,” he told DAZN after the final whistle.

“I think tonight’s win is huge for us, and goes beyond my goal. There had been times this season where was a feeling that we may struggle in the final minutes but not tonight. We came here with the intention to win.”

“200 appearances for Roma? I dedicate this night to my family, and by that I mean everyone who’s played a role in my life, including my agents who got me here.”

“Our ambitions? Honestly, I don’t know where this season will take us. What I know is that this team never gives up. I hope our supporters can be proud of us.”
