Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini spoke in the aftermath of the team’s win over Feyenoord.
The Italian midfielder was asked about the team’s performance tonight as well as Daniele De Rossi’s impact since his arrival in January.
“I’m very happy because this match could have seemed like a crossroads. In the last month we have shown excellent things and we can believe in ourselves. I’m really happy with how we’re doing,” Pellegrini told Sky Sport.
“Over the last few years we’ve played so many games in Europe. This has been a huge gift for the fans. We fight for them and train to always improve and win for them.”
“What I can say is that there has always been maximum commitment on my part. I’m very meticulous, I look at the matches, the statistics. I always tried to understand why I didn’t perform well. I do not know why. Now I’m very happy because things are going well.”
“i love playing as a mezz’ala where De Rossi sees me. I like going forward, pushing, shooting, assisting, but also participating in the game setup. The coach leaves me a lot of freedom and to create space for myself. I am very free from this point of view and perhaps by doing so I am able to show more qualities in my game.”
“De Rossi? I think I owe him my 150% in training and matches. Everyone knows the kind of relationship I have with him. Our relationship is born from a respect that is impossible to describe.”
“I think he will be our coach beyond these last six months of the season. That’s my opinion – I think we needed to start from something and he is much more than something, both as a coach and as a man. I think I owe him all my availability. Since he is the coach, our relationship remains off the pitch. On the pitch he is the coach and I am the player. What I assure you is that I will always give my all for him and for Roma, as always.”
