RomaPress – After finalising a deal for Tammy Abraham, Roma will try to acquire one more name before signaling an end to their transfer market campaign.
Roma manager Jose Mourinho has made it clear to compatriot Tiago Pinto, the club’s General Director, that he still wants a midfield reinforcement.
The Giallorossi had previously been in discussions with Arsenal for midfielder Granit Xhaka, but the move never came to fruition after nearly two months of negotiations.
As a result, Roma recently turned their attention to another Arsenal midfielder: former Sampdoria man and Uruguayan international Lucas Torreira. The 25 year-old is eager for a return to Serie A this summer after spending last season on loan with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
Pablo Bentancur, Torreira’s agent, touched down in London and will meet with the Gunners to find a solution for the midfielder.
The Londoners would prefer to sell the player permanently, but with the transfer window winding down, they’ve started to slowly become open to the idea of a loan.
After a summer of big spending, a loan deal is a solution that Roma have already expressed interest in pursuing. First, though, they would need to offload a midfielder already on the roster, such as Amadou Diawara or Gonzalo Villar.
