Roma fullback Leonardo Spinazzola was excluded from Luciano Spalletti’s list for Italy’s upcoming engagements.
Prior to the games with Malta and England, the ex-Napoli manager decided against calling up Spinazzola.
In today’s press conference, Spalletti touched upon this decision, mentioning the player’s reaction to the news.
“I left him at home reluctantly because I called him and he answered me as I hoped he would answer: “For me it has been my life to make others reconsider me, so I will try even harder”, he told me.”
Then, Spalletti explained his decision to replace Lorenzo Pellegrini – who was recently injured and listed to be out for a month – with Fiorentina’s Giacomo Bonaventura.
“Like with Pellegrini, Bonaventura is the most attacking midfielder we have and someone who can cover various positions up front. He can shoot, he can cut in – he’s very well-rounded.”
