Roma suffered their first defeat in this year’s edition of Europa League as they stepped on the pitch against Ludogorets and were beaten by the hosts in the second half 2-1.

The match started on an uneventful note with both teams struggling to create chances on a pitch that was in very poor conditions.

After missing several opportunities – among those Gianluca Mancini hitting the post with a header and Lorenzo Pellegrini sending the ball high over the cross bar – the hosts were able to take the lead with Cauly Oliveira in the 72nd minute.

Mourinho’s changes included youngsters Edoardo Bove and Crisitan Volpato. But, ultimately it was Eldor Shomurodov’s entrace that gave Roma a much needed spark and resulted in an equalizer only four minutes away from the final whistle.

However, the Giallorossi failed to impose themselves and soon afterwards found themselves victims of Nonato’s winner in the 88th minute.

The game ended 2-1 and Roma walked off the pitch demoralized with the awareness that they must do much better in order to get back to winning ways after the humiliating loss in Udine on Sunday.
