Roma central defender Roger Ibañez may follow in the footsteps of compatriots Jorginho, Rafael Toloi and Emerson Palmieri by accepting a call-up to the Italian national team.
Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport claims that Azzurri manager Roberto Mancini is seriously considering calling up the 22 year-old Brazilian, who also holds Italian and Uruguayan passports.
Mancini reportedly likes the defender’s versatility and considers him a part of the crop of strong, young defenders currently plying their trade in the Serie A.
The former Atalanta man has only featured for Brazil’s U23 side and remains eligible to switch allegiances should he decide to do so.
Furthermore, he recently admitted that although his dream is to play for the Brazilian national team, he wouldn’t rule out accepting a call-up from Italy.
