Roma midfielder Manu Koné put on an impressive show in first ever starting debut for France’s senior team tonight.

The 23-year-old whom Roma signed on deadline day was given the chance to feature in the national team’s starting line-up by coach Didier Deschamps.

Koné proved a crucial presence in the midfield, filling in as the defensive midfielder of the group in France’s 2-0 win over Belgium.

After the game, Manu Koné spoke to reporters about his performance.

“Unlike in the match against Italy, today we did what we had to do and we reacted. Now we will return to our clubs and continue to work also in view of the next commitments with the national team.”

“I like both defending and attacking, I find myself at my I’m comfortable with the ball at my feet. When you have possession of the ball it’s easier. I am naturally calm then.”

“I had fun and I thank the team for the trust they gave me, I was calm and I had to show what I can do.”

“I’ve come a long way to get here and it’s a source of pride for everyone, for my family and for my city.”
