Marash Kumbulla celebrates Europa League goal in Real Sociedad win

Andy Mattioli

Roma defender Marash Kumbulla provided the team with a key header to secure a much needed win in tonight’s first leg of the Europa League round of 16 with Real Sociedad.

The Albanian centreback’s goal came late in the second half and was enough to help Roma keep control of the match.

After the final whistle, Kumbulla described his feelings of celebrating in front of a packed Curva Sud at the Stadio Olimpico.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” he told Sky Sport. “It has always been my goal to score in front of the Curva, I had scored under the Curva Nord, but this is completely different.”

“I hope my goal will help us in the second leg. Today was a good performance,” he added.

“Our defensive solidity stems from the whole team. It’s not just us defenders or midfielders, but the forwards also give us a big hand, as well as the crowd. It’s impossible not to give everything with this fan base.”

“I’ve always worked hard. This is me, I try to give everything with my strengths and weaknesses. I’m very happy.”
