Albanian defender Marash Kumbulla proved to be a valuable addition as he replaced injured Diego Llorente at half-time in tonight’s win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League.
Kumbulla’s header in the final minutes of the match gifted Roma a precious two-goal advantage as they head into next week’s return leg in San Sebastian.
After the game, Kumbulla discussed the thoughts racing through his head following his celebrations in front of the home crowd.
“We deserved to win tonight,” he told Roma TV. “We really wanted it, above all because we played at home with a full stadium. 2-0 is a good result but we still have to remain focused.”
“The goal brought me immense joy, it’s the first time I’ve scored under the Curva Sud and it’s always been one of my dreams.”
“It’s not easy to play every three days, but we try to put our soul into every game. Then at home with this crowd it becomes a lot easier,” he said.
