Former Inter defender Marco Materazzi – one of the protagonists of Mourinho’s treble-winning squad – spoke about the recently concluded transfer window with a special mention for Roma, who under difficult circumstances and financial constraints managed to land the likes of Paulo Dybala and Gini Wijnaldum.
“For me Roma made the best moves in this window,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “And it’s not a surprise: it’s hard to say ‘no’ to Mourinho.
“Tiago Pinto did more than enough this summer: Dybala, Wijnaldum, Matic, Camara and Belotti… Roma managed to shorten the distance between themselves and the league’s top teams. And with Jose everything’s possible, you never know…”
“In my opinion,” continued the retired centre-back. “Dybala is the deal of the summer because of his overall worth and the way Roma and Mourinho can prove to be a decisive moment in his career.”
“Paulo just needed to feel at the center of a club’s project,” Materazzi concluded.
