Marcos Senesi among names for the defense

Roma’s casting for the role of central defender continues given Smalling’s fragile physical condition and Kumbulla’s recent string of poor performances.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the initial dream name for January was Sven Botman.

The 21-year-old, however, is unlikely to leave French side Lille in the January transfer window.

Moreover, the rumored price-tag is estimated at €30 million – a figure deemed too high by Roma who will be working with a limited budget in the winter market.

Thus, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Giallorossi have turned their attention toward Feyenoord’s Marcos Senesi.

The Argentinian defender has a price-tag of around €15-20 million and could be brought in on loan with option to buy. His contract is set to expire in 2023.

Roma will, however, assess Smalling’s condition in the coming weeks and make a decision regarding a potential investment in the backline.
