Martin Hinteregger emerges as a candidate to replace Spinazzola

Andy Mattioli

The list of names of potential candidates to replace sidelined Leonardo Spinazzola grows with each day. This time around it’s Martin Hinteregger’s turn.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pinto has included Eintracht Frankfurt’s defender among the long list of players that could help Roma fill in the void left by Spinazzola’s injury. The 28-year-old Austrian international can cover multiple positions including left-back. His versatility and experience could play a role in the absence of Leonardo Spinazzola who will most likely be out of action for 6-8 months.

The price-tag, however, is rather steep – Frankfurt are asking for around €20 million for the Austrian defender. Initially, Roma wanted to make a low-cost operation for Spinazzola’s temporary replacement. However, most candidates for the job including Hinteregger and Gladbach’s Bensebaini have proven to be highly valued by their respective clubs.

Thus, Tiago Pinto and José Mourinho will have to decide what kind of profile they want to bring in over the coming weeks as Roma prepare to leave to Portugal for pre-season.
