Matheus Guedes nearing Roma move despite Sevilla interest

Roma’s interest for Santos central defender Matheus Guedes has survived the departures of both Monchi and Ricky Massara — as the youngster is getting closer to joining the Giallorossi. Corriere dello Sport reports that after months of negotiations, the 1.93m tall defender will soon be able to begin his adventure in the Italian capital. In the next few weeks, the ’99 class defender will land at Fiumicino to undergo his medical examinations with Roma before going out on loan to a fellow Serie A club in order to get comfortable with Italian football. Ex-Roma sporting director Monchi, who was in talks with the player while in Rome, tried to sway Guedes into joining Sevilla, but he has refused the advances of the Spanish side because of his dream of landing in the Italian capital. Barring any unforeseen twists, Guedes is ready to join Roma.
