The Mayor of Rome, Robrto Gualtieri, declared himself concerned following today’s draw which resulted in Roma facing Feyenoord over the next two legs of Europa League quarterfinals.

The Mayor addressed his concerns regarding potential violence and acts of vandalism akin to the ones Feyenoord supporters carried out in 2015 when they demolished the historical Fontana della Barcaccia in the centre of the Italian capital.

“I asked Minister Piantedosi to evaluate the idea of an away ban for Feyenoord fans and to have a very tough attitude, to protect the city of Rome and the country as a whole,” Gualtieri declared.

“I expressed my concern about this meeting which, among other things, takes place on the eve of the arrival of the BIE inspectors for the Rome Expo, so there is another reason for attention. We have already seen very serious episodes of violence, even more so in such a delicate moment for the city.”
