Getafe officially unveiled Roma duo Borja Mayoral and Gonzalo Villar as their newest acquisitions yesterday after the Spaniards completed loan moves to the club.

Mayoral, 24, joined the Giallorossi in the summer of 2020 from Real Madrid on a two-year loan deal with an option to buy. Roma’s top goalscorer last season, Mayoral tallied 18 goals in 56 games in all competitions for the club.

However, following José Mourinho’s arrival in the summer, the former Wolfsburg man saw a dramatic decrease in playing time, a situation that he labeled as “difficult”.

“Gonzalo and I are two players who want to compete and find some stability,” he told Getafe TV.

“I’m confident we’ll find what we’re looking for here. My situation in Rome was a bit difficult. However, I believe that with hard work, I’ll be able to find the minutes that I’m looking for here at Getafe.”

Before securing his exit, Mayoral amassed only 249 minutes in 11 total appearances in all competitions this season.
