Milan manager Stefano Pioli met with the media today to discuss his team’s upcoming showdown in the Italian capital versus Roma.
The two sides, both level on 56 points, square off at the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow evening in a match with massive top four ramifications.
“We need to give continuity to our performances and ensure we treat the each upcoming game as the most important one, which is exactly what tomorrow is,” began Pioli.
“Tomorrow’s game is worth double and we need to approach it with the right spirit and conviction. It’s a match that’s worth a lot. The season is dwindling but we have three games that are direct clashes against teams fighting us for a top four place.”
“Obviously the more points we earn, the better our chances at finishing in a Champions League place–which is our grand objective.”
He continued, “We know Roma well and we analysed what happened our first game earlier this season. We have to be careful in the areas the Giallorossi are strong in: such as set pieces, where 40% of their goals come from.”
“They’re also strong defensively. In seven home matches in 2023 they haven’t conceded a goal. Meanwhile, their players in attack are capable at scoring in a moment’s notice.”
“We’ll have to try and keep control of the game. The team is doing well and they’re motivated to have a strong end to the season. We want to be protagonists and have the qualities to do so.”
