Mile Svilar hopes in Belgium call-up for EURO 2024

Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar’s ascent has taken Europe by storm, including the Serbian national team which was planning to include him in the preliminary squad list for the upcoming EURO campaign.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Serbia’s invitation comes in light of Svilar’s recent ascent and brilliant performances in Serie A and Europa League with Roma. However, the newspaper reports that Svilar does not intend to accept Serbia’s invitation.

Instead, the player is hoping to convince the Belgian federation and coach Domenico Tedesco to take a chance on him ahead of the EURO.

Tedesco himself is said to have personally reached out to Svilar in recent days and the close rapport with Romelu Lukaku could also favor Svilar’s availability for Belgium in the summer.

The main question concerns the player’s nationality: born and raised in Antwerp, Svilar has already represented the Belgian youth selections, but in 2021 he decided to follow the blood bond and made his debut for Serbia in a friendly against Qatar.
