Mkhitaryan: “We have to give everything against Atalanta. We must all take responsibility”.

John Solano

Roma attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the latest player to appear in the latest edition of the AS Roma Match Program ahead of this weekend’s critical showdown in Bergamo against Atalanta. Here’s what the former Manchester United man had to say:

Let’s start with the numbers: 10 appearances, 541 minutes played and 4 goals. Your goal to minutes ratio is good.
Yes, but that’s not enough. Now I want to do everything to help the team: score more goals, get more assists and help the team win.

After the injury, how is your recovery going?
I feel better now. It’s a shame I wasn’t able to be there against Juve or at the Derby. However, injuries happen and I’ve worked hard to return.

Roma were brilliant in the Derby against Lazio: what’s happened since then?
It’s normal for something like this to happen because anything can happen in football. One day you feel good and do well, but the next something else happens and you don’t get results. It’s all normal in football – but we have to get to work and start believing in ourselves.

Next there’s a direct clash with Atalanta in Bergamo.
We know very well the importance of this match. We have to give everything to win even if it won’t be easy. However, it will be a different game from the first one, where we lost 2-0.

February will be an important month: there’s also the Europa League.
We have an important squad and the manager will involve everybody. Everyone will have to be ready to take responsibility for taking the pitch in the next few games. We must be ready physically and mentally, without thinking about how critical the moment is — we can’t put too much pressure on ourselves. It will be an important month for us.
