Monchi: “I feel the need to change.”

Sevilla sporting director Monchi, who has been heavily linked with a summer move to Roma, was interviewed by beIN Sports España, here are his words:

“In England, they certainly have more money available but I see too much of a gap between the owners and sporting directors. I need more decision-making power, for this, I am convinced that in Ligue 1 and Serie A I could work better. I need challenges. I am like Sevilla, a rebel. In fact, there is a concrete reason that pushes me to change. And there is not a fixed date. Yes, there is a desire to experience other feelings and other situations in the future. The fact is that I am intimately a Sevillista. I came here as a player at 18 and, after 30 years, I’m still here as a director.”

“I feel the need to change, to experiment and this will happen in the future. I’ll go when the necessary conditions for my exit from the club are given. It will not be a unilateral decision, but bilaterally. We will all agree. A possible goodbye after the end of the winter market? It’s a story that has been circulating in Sevilla. It was said that the new club would pay the release clause, but it is exactly what I do not want. There must be a full agreement. It’s clear that it is a difficult choice, especially now that things are going so well.”
