Monchi speaks ahead of Virtus Entella

John Solano

Monchi to RAI before Roma-Virtus Entella:

How important is this match?
For us it is very important. I think the manager and all of us have said that the Coppa Italia is very important. We must give Entella the respect they deserve, however, we have to advance.

The transfer market? Are Tonali, Barella and Belotti targets?
They’re players of other clubs, and I don’t discuss players who aren’t at Roma. Yesterday I listened to the manager and he said the same that I said to La Gazzetta dello Sport. We are looking for some players in the transfer market to raise the level but if we do not find any, we’ll stay as we are. We have limits in negotiations as we have made big investments in the summer. The team is strong – for me, we have to think that the solutions are already in the team, not outside of it.

Schick and Pastore: how do you evaluate their situations?
I’ve been a sporting director for twenty years and I’ve never done mid-season evaluations. They have to improve their performance but there is still time. I can tell you many stories about players who did not start well and then did great things. I hope that Schick and Pastore have a good match and I am convinced that they are still important players for Roma.

Can the Italian midfield become the basis for the team to relaunch?
Yes, we are happy that the Roma midfield is full of Italians and strong players. We hope this is the basis for an important future for Roma and for the national team.

De Rossi?
We have talked about this. Daniele is very important for us, he’s been injured for two and a half months but we are convinced that slowly he is healing and we think he can be ready for the second part of the season.

Are you thinking of Badelj?
I said before I’ll only discuss players at Roma, nevermind someone at Lazio (laughs). I wanted to buy him when I was at Sevilla but we’re not thinking of him now.
