Roma sporting director Ramon Monchi was interviewed by Sky Sport ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Viktoria Plzen. These are his words:
What is the club’s position towards the manager?
I have talked about it many times, the position of the club has not changed, the confidence in the manager is the same. When I trust a professional, I hardly ever lose confidence in him. I know you are looking for news, but I am confused when I read about a war between Roma’s directors and I get crazy because sometimes I think that you’re discussing other clubs: there is 100% trust in Di Francesco, he’s the same manager that led us to third place and the Champions League semi-finals last season. We do not place the full responsibility on him (for the recent struggles).
There’s been talk that you’d quit if Di Francesco was sacked.
This is craziness, I’ve neither thought this nor discuss it. I want to stay at this club for a long time. As long as I have the trust of the club, I want to stay here. I made an significant gamble by coming here and I want to stay with this club.
How did the ritiro help?
To help the team understand what the problems are and help them become tighter as a group. Sometimes, the players can find solutions by interacting more with each other.
