Monchi tries for Barrios, Boca are tempted

John Solano

With only a week left in the transfer market, Roma sporting director Monchi still has his eyes open for opportunities. Confirmation arrived yesterday from Argentina that the Giallorossi are pressing for Colombian Wilmar Barrios, Boca Juniors midfielder. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Monchi really likes the player, who has a €21 million release clause, and has proposed a six month loan deal with an obligation to buy for his clause amount, a proposal that is tempting the club. Boca need to sell a foreign player after the arrival of Jorman Campuzano, who is also Colombian. It won’t be easy but Roma will continue to try for the player — they could be aided by ex-defender Nico Burdisso, who is the newly appointed sporting director of the Argentine side.
