Ex-Roma sporting director Ramon Monchi was unveiled today by Sevilla after the Spaniard quit Roma just two weeks ago to return to his former club. These are his words:
“It’s a difficult day to imagine and it’s difficult to explain. It is a day that I hoped would come as soon as possible and it’s come true. I want to thank the president and the administration and all those who have contributed and who are here. The president said it perfectly: I am here today because in the last few days with the President and the general managers, they have given me an idea of the future of Sevilla, which coincides with what I have in my mind could be the Sevilla of the future. I am not here because I am Sevillista, even though I am. I believe that after being away for two years in an important club such as Roma, who will always be in my heart, I have grown professionally and I have the right and the duty to continue this personal growth in the club I love”.
Are you coming back to Sevilla permanently?
I am convinced that there are many jobs to be done, many good things have been done and I think I can do good things here. The last time I was sporting director here I stayed for 18 years. I’ve returned to stay as long as possible.
You left two years ago.
After 18 years, I wanted to change and to grow. I had chosen a difficult place, even though I had many options — and I chose a project where I could grow. I was working at Roma 24 hours a day as a Sevilla supporter. Now I can work 24 hours a day as a Sevilla supporter at Sevilla.
This developed quickly.
When President Castro called me after having terminated my contract with Roma, I liked what he showed me. It is important that I pass the message that I am here because I agree with the management about what I can bring. It is difficult to feel loved as I have felt in the last few days. I am here because I believe I can make Sevilla grow. I left Roma for a simple reason: I realised the ideas of the owner were different from mine.
