Roma are pushing for Chris Smalling to extend his stay in the Italian capital beyond the expiry of his current contract with the Giallorossi.
The Englishman has yet to agree to an additional year with Roma and in the process his agent has been approached by Inter and Juventus. Both clubs have expressed their interest in the soon-to-be free agent.
Roma, on the other hand, do not want to lose him and prefer to avoid a situation similar to the one they experienced with Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the summer.
As a result, Corriere dello Sport reports that Jose Mourinho is planning to hold close discussions with the ex-Man United centreback to convince him to sign an extension with the club. Similarly, his teammates – who consider Smalling a crucial personality in the dressing room – are pushing for his stay.
