Despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise, Nicolo Zaniolo will not be called up for Roma’s upcoming league engagement with Empoli on Monday night.
The player is still in the process of recovering from a dislocated shoulder suffered a couple of weeks ago against Cremonese.
As reported by Sky Sport, Jose Mourinho and Roma’s medical staff have decided against calling up the 23-year-old for the Giallorossi’s fifth Serie A matchday.
Zaniolo is expected to return to group training halfway through next week, with the hope of recruiting him for Roma’s second Europa League fixture with Helsinki at home.
The player wants to be able to start in the big match against Atalanta on September 18th.
