Cristian Volpato’s emergence as a Primavera wonderkid represented by Francesco Totti’s agency and subsequent rise as an option off the bench for Jose Mourinho took everyone by surprise over the past year.
The Portuguese technician was responsible for giving Volpato a chance with the first team in last year’s comeback draw with Hellas Verona, where Volpato produced a much needed equalizer that displayed his quality and offensive prowess as an attacking midfielder.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Mourinho has developed a close rapport with Volpato, almost becoming a father figure to the 18-year-old. The Special One is closely following the youngster’s development and knows when to intervene with stern advice.
The player could even feature in the second half of tonight’s Derby della Capitale.
