Mourinho discusses Roma’s growth after difficult start

Andy Mattioli

Roma manager Jose Mourinho spoke about the team’s growth and steady progress in this New Year following a slow and rocky start to his second season in the Italian capital.

During his post-match press conference last night, Mourinho praised his side’s ability to compete despite the limited resources at their disposal.

“We try to improve despite our limits,” he told reporters after full-time to Roma-Fiorentina. “There is one thing that seems very obvious to me, if we are 4 points behind second place with these players, 3 points from the others, there is something wrong with the others.”

“They have quality rosters but they are right there in front of us. The question is not why we are where we are, but why they are where they are in terms of league standings.”

“We are 3 points behind Inter, 4 points behind Milan, either we have become better or the others deserve your attention and speculation. We want to improve things, we have improved our playmaking from the back, we have changed our ways of pressing the opponent. We are a more compact team, we do what is possible and we will try to win against Spezia.”
