Mourinho eyes Kluivert, El Shaarawy stays

Incoming Roma manager José Mourinho appears ready to rely on Stephan El Shaarawy and Justin Kluivert for next season.

Sky Sport reports that the Portuguese tactician wants to keep the pair at the club despite both being linked with potential exits.

Kluivert spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig and recently expressed his desire to remain at the German side. Mourinho, however, has long been an admirer of the Dutchman, as highlighted in a now infamous video of the pair talking, and wants to keep him in the Italian capital.

It would be a chance for the attacker to redeem himself in Italy after he struggled in his two seasons under former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca.

He eventually joined RB Leipzig on a straight loan deal last summer, but again found himself in and out of the starting eleven – tallying three goals and one assist in 19 league appearances.

Meanwhile, there were whispers that attacker Stephan El Shaarawy could also depart Roma just six months after rejoining from Shanghai Shenhua. Mourinho, though, also prefers that ‘il Faraone’ remain in Rome for the upcoming campaign.
