Roma boss Jose Mourinho sounded bothered about tonight’s 0-1 defeat to Lazio in the Coppa Italia.
The Portuguese technician reacted to the team’s performance and shared an update on Paulo Dybala.
“It’s always painful when it’s the derby, it’s even more painful,” he told SportMediaset.
“We have great difficulties and we struggle in dealing with them. We played Napoli, Juve, Atalanta and Lazio, we won against Napoli, we deserved more against Atalanta and Juve and today we lose due to a penalty in modern football. I’m not saying it’s a penalty or not, but the referee doesn’t give it from three meters away. Players are educated that way. 10 or 20 years ago they wouldn’t have dove like today.”
“In the first half we were the team with the most personality and looked more organized on the pitch. Everything changes for us when Dybala leaves the pitch, it also happened with Fiorentina when we looked like we could win easily. Without him there is less quality and fewer connections.”
“The goal we concede is also a bit ridiculous, not because of the penalty which is caused by a young but bright talent in Huijsen and as a person but it is a penalty from a child who has played 55 minutes in Serie A. With a top and intelligent referee who dominates all aspects of the game, whoever scores first has the game in hand because he doesn’t let the game flow.”
“Dybala? He suffered the usual muscle injury. He played a very physical match two days ago and was on the pitch for 80 minutes. This was a demanding game and he wanted to play. We have examples of people who are within the limits but exceed them like Mancini who takes painkillers to play and doesn’t train until the next match.”
“When Paulo goes down, everything becomes more difficult. Pellegrini entered after suffering a blow to the spinal area on Sunday. I’m disappointed in some players tonight. Lukaku could have scored a great goal, we get to the external areas but we don’t make a cross.”
“The exit from the Coppa Italia weighs on all of us when we think especially of these incredible fans. Let’s end this horrible cycle on Sunday in Milan.”
