As Sergio Oliveira recently celebrated his 30th birthday, Jose Mourinho shared his thoughts on the Porto midfielder who came to Roma on loan earlier in January and gave the Special One’s team a much needed boost in the midfield to salvage the second half of the season.
“He belongs to Porto,” Mourinho Mais Futebol. “If they want to loan him again to us I’d happily drive over to Madrid and pick him up myself, since that’s where he’s been celebrating his birthday.”
“He’s a champion,” continued Mourinho. “He was important for us, and he shared many of my principles, principles on how to behave on and off the pitch, on how to work and how to face challenges.”
“He helped me get that message across in the second half of the season to the rest of the team. He was an example we needed, he is a team player and the team is much more important than the individual.”
He concluded, “I’m grateful for what he did for us. I would love for him to stay, but we’ll see.”
