Following a 1-0 away victory in the first game of the season, Roma manager Jose Mourinho dedicated a great deal of his post-match presser praising his side’s attacking display despite the numerous missed chances. The Special One had especially high praise for the Zaniolo-Dybala duo.
“I liked everything I saw tonight,” said the Portuguese technician. “Obviously I would have preferred to watch on calmly with a score line of 3-0, 4-0 or 5-0, but I enjoyed seeing a team which did not finish its chances still have the maturity to manage the final result.”
“Usually in these games you either suffer or you end up losing, but tonight was not the case,” he added.
“The players who came on in the second half did not come on to kill the game, but to manage it. Matic and Wijnaldum helped bring the result home with confidence.”
“Salernitana is different from last year, they have more talent and this week two players arrived and played from the start. In two or three weeks with more work they will have an important team.”
“I’m happy with our result. Perhaps tomorrow someone will write that Zaniolo and Dybala should have scored 2-3 goals, but they’ll fail to mention that they played an extraordinary match.”
