Roma manager Jose Mourinho was quick to react in his post-match interview to tonight’s 2-0 victory over Napoli at Stadio Olimpico.
In his post-match reaction with DAZN, Mourinho commented, “We talked about this before the match, our Christmas is that of the Roma fans. We managed to win and stay close to where we want to be. Even with all our problems and fatigue due to the number of games played in recent weeks.”
“After the first 5 or 10 minutes I had the feeling of winning tonight. We played well 11 against 11 with two incredible scoring chances. We were always in control of the match against a team much superior to ours from a technical point of view. With 10 of them we had an advantage and we took advantage of it well. Tonight’s victory was truly well deserved,” he added.
“Today we interpreted the match the way we wanted to, putting high pressure on them. To do this we needed Cristante and Paredes but also Bove who is someone who bites and presses. He is in incredible physical condition. He is not very fast but has very high stamina.”
“When we saw the door open, playing against 10, we decided to bring in Pellegrini, El Shaarawy and Azmoun to add creativity to our game. I liked the team, I liked my central defenders on whom I had been very harsh all week long. Mancini is a champion to me. He hadn’t trained all week. The groin pain is tough but he played for the team and what a performance he gave!”
“I prefer to do my own management which is from match to match for a very simple reason. It’s no one’s fault, it’s not a criticism but we have a group of players who have a difficult medical history. If we are all of us every game, I would have no problem saying that we can fight with everyone. I’m not talking about the Scudetto but about fourth place. However, we are a team with this difficulty, then we have the FFP one which is difficult to manage and for this reason I don’t want to talk about a clear objective. We are united, the team has extraordinary guys who turn weaknesses into strength.”
“What we wanted to do in January is not what we can do. We won today against Napoli, now Juventus awaits us,” he added.
