Roma are working to sign Real Madrid fullback Alvaro Odriozola in the upcoming January window.

The capital club have identified the Spanish defender as their preferred choice to replace Rick Karsdorp who is on his way out of the Italian capital after a falling out with Jose Mourinho in the aftermath of Sassuolo-Roma.

As a result of the Dutchman’s intention to leave, the Giallorossi have promptly contacted Odriozola’s entourage, inquiring about his availability in January.

Odriozola – who spent last year at Fiorentina, collecting 27 appearances with one goal and one assist to his name – hasn’t played a single minute for Carlo Ancelotti’s team. The 26-year-old is thus pushing to leave Madrid as soon as possible in search of consistent playing time.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mourinho is a big fan of Odriozola’s and shares a good relationship with the player’s agent. Consequently, Roma are in talks with Real Madrid for a loan with option to buy set at around €10 million.
