Roma manager Jose Mourinho was proud of his men in tonight’s crucial away victory against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi as the Giallorossi pulled away with two late goals to seal the win.
“Verona did everything they could to leave from here with a point in their favour. They have a young coach who set them up really well tonight. They put us in a tight spot, man-marking us very closely,” Mourinho said of tonight’s opponent in his post-match interview with DAZN.
“We did everything we could to win tonight. After almost every game this season I would have this feeling that we could have done more, but today I go out with the idea that my team did everything to win.”
“I changed the system twice during the match, I put all our offensive solutions up front. I believed in Volpato’s imagination, I believed that Matic would make a difference. When you win in the 90th minute you can talk a bit about luck, but we’d looked for the win all night.”
On Nicolo Zaniolo scoring his first Serie A goal of the season, Mourinho said, “I’m never frustrated when Nico doesn’t score. He always gives us everything he’s got. He forces the opponent to foul him a lot. I’m always happy with him.”
“The Derby? I refuse to talk about it. I’m only interested in the next match. If any one of my players decides to talk about it, it will be a mistake.”
