Jose Mourinho made a number of bold choices in last night’s win against Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico including the decision to do without a striker, have Dybala play as a false nine and start Wijnaldum for the second time in a row.

“We had worked out a game plan without Tammy up front, but 50 minutes into the match Tammy was about to come on, right when we scored,” he told reporters after the match.

“We had to face Bremer in the back three, and he’s a tough player to beat one on one. We tried to play without a center forward, we had more bodies in the midfield with Lorenzo, Cristante and Matic. We didn’t want to press them too much, instead we wanted to allow them to play, compacting the defense.”

“After the start of the second half we tried to change the dynamics when Bremer switched to the right and we had to press Bonucci instead. The goal changed the entire complexity of the match.”
