Roma were dealt a huge blow to start the new season after one of their top summer signings – Gini Wijnaldum – went down with a serious injury in the campaign’s opening stages.

The ex-Liverpool man is expected to return from his fractured tibia injury sometime within the next 4-6 weeks.

The Dutchman suffered the blow during the final portion of a late August training session which sidelined him for nearly five months.

The player’s recovery proceeds steadily, but Roma are unlikely to see him on the pitch before late January, reports Corriere dello Sport.

Mourinho has already communicated to Wijnaldum his plans of recruiting him for Roma’s upcoming training camp in Portugal. The player will not take part in group training activities, but the Special One considers crucial the reintegration of Wijnaldum with the rest of the squad.
